Medisave for Dental

Eligibility for Medisave Dental Claims

In order to be able to claim from your Medisave account, you will need to meet the following requirements.

• You are a Singapore citizen or permanent resident
• You have sufficient funds in your Medisave account to cover the dental bill

In the event that you do not have an account or have insufficient balance, your immediate family members would be able to pay for you using their Medisave accounts.

Medisave Claimable Dental Treatments and Procedures

Medisave is only claimable for dental treatments that involve surgery due to medical reasons. Hence, you will be able to claim the following:

• Dental implants
• Wisdom tooth surgery
• Surgical removal of retained roots or fractured teeth
• Gum surgery (Frenectomy)

You will not be able to use it for non-surgical, cosmetic or aesthetic dental treatments such as:

• Tooth extraction
• Non-surgical root canal treatment
• Braces (including Invisalign)
• Dental crowns
• Dental bridges
• Dentures

Note:
You will be able to enjoy non-surgical treatments at a subsidised rate if you have a CHAS/MG/PG card.

CHAS Government Subsidies

CHAS, Merdeka Generation and Pioneer Generation Subsidies for Dental Services

To make healthcare and dental care more affordable, the Singapore government has provided a series of subsidies for Singaporeans through CHAS, the Merdeka Generation package and Pioneer Generation package.

Depending on the scheme, citizens are entitled to different amounts of subsidies.

What is Community Health Assist Scheme (CHAS)?

The Community Health Assist Scheme (CHAS) is a scheme offered by the Ministry of Health (MOH) in an effort to make medical treatment and dental care more affordable for Singapore citizens.

CHAS cardholders can receive a subsidy on their dental bill* according to the respective tiers at participating dental clinics.
*This is subject to a list of services/treatments.

Eligibility for CHAS Cards

All Singapore Citizens can apply for CHAS. Every household is required to submit an application in order to receive the card.
The amount of subsidies provided will differ depending on the following criteria:

• For households with an income: Household monthly income per person

This is determined by dividing the total gross household income per month by the number of family members staying in the household.

• For households without an income: The AV of the home (assessed by IRAS)

The Annual Value (AV) is the approximate amount of rent collected annually if the home is being rented out.
The table below shows the breakdown of the respective tiers:

Citizens with a Merdeka Generation (MG) or Pioneer Generation (PG) card can enjoy CHAS subsidies regardless of their monthly income or annual value (AV) of home.

Additionally, citizens with the Public Assistance (PA) card can present their card to receive the full CHAS subsidies without applying for CHAS.

Application for CHAS Cards

Here’s how to apply for CHAS cards:

• Online application

Singaporeans who are 21 years old and above can apply online on behalf of their family members staying in the same household.

• Physical application form

The completed form as well as any additional supporting documents can be mailed to P.O. Box 680, Bukit Merah Central Post Office, Singapore 911536.

Once your application has been submitted, you can expect to receive the results within 15 working days.

Merdeka Generation Package Subsidies

What is the Merdeka Generation Package?

The Merdeka Generation Package (MGP) is for Singaporeans born between 1950 and 1959. 
It seeks to encourage healthy living and provide support and benefits to this group of citizens with their healthcare needs.

Eligibility

If you are a Singapore citizen, you should meet the following criteria in order to be eligible for the MGP:

• You are born on/between 1 January 1950 and 31 December 1959
• You obtained citizenship on/before 31 December 1996

Alternatively, you can qualify for the MGP if you:

• Are a citizen born on/before 31 December 1949
• Obtained citizenship on/before 31 December 1996
• Did not receive the Pioneer Generation Package

You can log in to MyInfo using SingPass to check your eligibility or view your e-card via the LifeSG app.

How to apply

You are not required to apply for the MGP. The card will automatically be issued to you if you qualify for the package.

Pioneer Generation Package

What is the Pioneer Generation Package?

The Pioneer Generation (PG) package was introduced to honour our Pioneers for their contribution to early Singapore.

Like the MGP, the PG package is designed to support these seniors with their healthcare costs.

Eligibility

​The PG package is eligible for the following:
​

• Age group: Singaporeans born on/before 31 December 1949​
• Citizenship: Became a Singapore citizen on/before 31 December 1986

A notification letter would have been sent to you if you are eligible for the package. You can also check your eligibility via these methods.

How to Apply

You are not required to apply for the PG package. The card will automatically be issued to you if you qualify for the package.

Subsidies available for each treatment

Scaling and Polishing

​These are the subsidies available and the claimable amount per year:

CHAS Blue card:
$50.50

Merdeka Generation card:
$60.50

Pioneer Generation card:
$70.50

You may claim up to 2 scaling and 2 polishing treatments per year.

Tooth Fillings

​Dental filling procedures are eligible for CHAS, Merdeka Generation and Pioneer Generation subsidies, with the exception of CHAS Orange Card tier. Here are the subsidy amounts available:

CHAS Blue card: 
Filings (simple): $30
Fillings (complex): $50

Merdeka Generation card:
Filings (simple): $35
Fillings (complex): $55

Pioneer generation card:
Filings (simple): $40
Fillings (complex): $60

You may claim up to 6 filling treatments per calendar year.

Dental Crown

​Depending on your eligibility, you may receive subsidies for certain dental services in Singapore. This includes permanent crowns. These are the subsidies available and the claimable amount per year:

CHAS Orange card:
$84.50

CHAS Blue card:
$127.50

Merdeka Generation card:
$132.50

Pioneer Generation card:
$137.50

You may claim for up to 4 permanent crowns per calendar year.

Dentures

​MediSave
Note that MediSave is only claimable for dental treatments that involve surgery due to medical reasons. Hence, you will not be able to claim MediSave for dentures, with the possible exception of implant-supported dentures.

CHAS, Merdeka Generation and Pioneer Generation
Patients with CHAS, Merdeka Generation (MG) and Pioneer Generation (PG) cards will be entitled to the following subsidies for dentures.

Dentures (partial) - less than 6 teeth: $65.50
Dentures (partial) - 6 or more teeth: $140
Dentures (full): $170.50

CHAS Blue card:
Dentures (partial) - less than 6 teeth: $98
Dentures (partial) - 6 or more teeth: $210
Dentures (full): $256.50

Merdeka Generation card: 
Dentures (partial) - less than 6 teeth: $103
Dentures (partial) - 6 or more teeth: $215
Dentures (full): $261.50

Pioneer Generation card: 
Dentures (partial) - less than 6 teeth: $108
Dentures (partial) - 6 or more teeth: $220

You may claim for up to 1 upper and 1 lower denture per 3 calendar year.

Tooth extraction procedures are eligible for CHAS, Merdeka Generation and Pioneer Generation subsidies, with the exception of CHAS Orange Card tier. Here are the subsidy amounts available:
